Free Trieste: the terms for the administering Italian Government expired, it is time for decisive international actions

Free Trieste: the terms given to the administering Italian Government have expired.

Time for decisive international actions.

PRESS CONFERENCE ON MONDAY, 21 SEPTEMBER, 11 AM

The present-day Free Territory of Trieste (since 1992).

Trieste, 16 September 2015. – The Free Trieste Movement notes that that the term set in the «Formal invitation to comply within 90 days to the obligations established under International and Italian law in regard to the Free Territory of Trieste, its citizens and residents, its enterprises and its institutions» sxpired. The organization addressed the Italian Government and its local Commissioner on 15 June 2015. Now, on 15 September 2015, it is possible confirming that none of those authorities complied with Free Trieste’s request.

Free Trieste considers that this silence equals to ignoring the mandate of temporary civil administration over the Free Territory of Trieste and over the international Free Port. Indeed, since 1954, that role is sub-entrusted to the Italian Government with the Memorandum of Understanding of London on behalf of the UNSC.

In view of this, the Movement has promptly activated «the needed legal remedies under international and domestic law».

Free Trieste is to announce its new, decisive actions during a press conference:

Monday, 21 September, at 11AM, conference room in piazza della Borsa 7, 1st floor.
