Cosolini and D’Agostino the sinkers of the Northern Free Port

Trieste, June 30th, 2015. – Local media reports that on Monday, June 29th, the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Cosolini (PD) has publicly announced to the representatives of the city’s economic and trade unions that within 15 days he, the Commissionr of the Port Authority, Zeno D’Agostino, as well as both the President of the Region, Ms. Serracchiani and the President of the national Director of the State Property Agency, Mr. Reggi, are signing an official act to remove from State Property the Northern Free Port of Trieste.

The officers involved want to transfer the Northern Free Port’s ownership to the Municipality, and it appears that its administration has already set the structures and the procedures to sell the port area and building off on the real estate market at the earliest possible time.

This seems to show that Mayor Cosolini and the other public officers involved in the operation are joining forces to accelerate it and to impose as a fait compli the removal from State Property and handing over of the Northern Free Port.

If so, they wouldn’t wait for the Commissioner of Government to issue an eventual decree removing the international Free Port constraint, and would not wait the ending of Free Trieste’s legal procedure seeking the registration of the area’s ownership to the “Free Territory of Trieste – international Free Port of Trieste” under the 1947 Peace Treaty.

Free Trieste is since long warning all public officers involved, including the Commissioner of Government, against carrying out their attempt to eliminate and sell off to an illegal urbanization and building speculation the Northern Free Port.

Free Trieste has already addressed several acts and criminal complaints to them, documenting very punctually not only the unlawful nature of the operation (due to several breaches of international and Italian laws), but also the related anti-mafia and anti-corruption questions.

Because of this, Free Trieste considers that attempting to force the operation, as is announcing Mayor Cosolini, constitutes a very serious illegal action, typical of Italian politics, which ultimately confirms a frame of alleged offences ranging from abuse of office to criminal association.

Finally, the Movement invites the Mayor and all the co-responsible person to refrain from that action, as well as announcing that all of this is soon giving raise to an integration to the criminal and international complaints already presented against them. Preliminary information on the matter is being sent also to the competent courts and international organizations.
