Trieste, June 22nd, 2015. – Today (6.22) the Commissioner of the Government received the first tax objections promoted by Free Trieste. The first 19 forms forms were lodged by Trieste’s citizens, residents and enterprises.

The initiative continues: forms are found at Free Trieste’s office, in piazza della Borsa 7 (Trieste).

The forms announce the suspension of the payment of all Italian taxes, as well as requesting the suspension of all enforcement measures and evictions, unless the Commissioner of the Government assesses that their establishing laws are properly extended to the city and its port.

Indeed, the Commissioner of the Government is in charge of exercising the provisional civil administration of the present-day Free Territory of Trieste, which is sub-entrusted to the Italian Government since 1954.

Free Trieste’s action recalls both international and Italian laws on the matter, as well as judgment No. 323/1965 with which the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation confirmed, precisely on matters of taxation, that if an Italian legislative measure «was not extended to the Free Territory of Trieste» with a suitable formal act, it does not apply to its citizens, residents and enterprises.

Finally, the Movement questions the fact that Italian taxation in Trieste is seriously burdened by Italy’s huge Italian public debt. Indeed, the Tree Territory is exempted from it under the 1947 Treaty of Peace with Italy, in particular, under Annex X, art. 5:

«The Free Territory shall be exempt from the payment of the Italian public debt.»
