“October 26th, 1954: THE INVASION”. The message refers to the beginning of the unfaithful administration of the Italian Government.

The Free Trieste Movement reminds the people that October 26th, 1954 is a day of national mourning for the Free Territory of Trieste, established under the 1947 Treaty of Peace and under the UNSC’s own protection.

Indeed, that is the date the Italian Government (not the Italian State) took the place of the British-US Allied Military Government in exercising the special trusteeship mandate over the Free Territory and its international Free Port.

The Italian Government’s duty was solely to grant the Free Territory and the Free Port a special administration separate from the Italian State’s and as fair as that of the British-US Government.

Instead, it simulated that Trieste had returned under the Italian State’s sovereignty, and by this deceit, it parasitizes the city’s economy and suffocates the Free Port for the advantage of competing Italian ports: what should have been a good administration turned out to be an invasion and robbery.

Italy’s political and economic collapse is drowning in poverty also the Free Territory, which, instead, thanks to its Free Port and a potential good administration can become an important source of jobs and well-being in the midst of this global crisis, as other global free zones.

Free Trieste, which works tireless locally and internationally for this goal, and therefore it considers shameful the hypocrisy of the Italian authorities in Trieste, which celebrate October 26th with nationalistic and militaristic rhetorics to contrast the strong, independent mindset of Trieste’s people.

Indeed, they have so little decency and sense of proportion that they go as far as sending here aircraft carriers, occupy our shore with tanks, and our Piazza Grande with WWI artillery and vehicles, even is Trieste’s people fought that war with Austria-Hungary, not with Italy.

In a peaceful, truthful, and cultural opposition to this propaganda, Free Trieste celebrates the day of national mourning of October 26th remembering the correct, honest, and efficient A.M.G. F.T.T. – the British-US Allied Military Government of the Free Territory of Trieste.

This is why the Movement flies the British and US flags on the balcony of its office, in Piazza della Borsa. On October 25th and 26th thee office is also hosting meetings, discussions, and conferences about the AMG FTT and the real past and present of the Free Territory of Trieste.
