May 7th, 2014: a new ordinance about Trieste

Free Trieste's demonstration before the Court of Trieste (May 2014).

Trieste, May 7th, 2014. – Today judge Piero Leanza of the Court of Trieste expressed himself about jurisdiction. The judge confirmed his March 19th ordinance.

In his previous decision, the judge had correctly ruled that Italian sovereignty over Trieste ended at the coming into force of the 1947 Treaty of Peace with Italy. He did also confirm that the 1954 Memorandum of Understanding of London established a civil administration.

However, even in the new decision, the judge claims that in 1975 Treaty of Osimo returned what then was “Zone A” to the Italian State.

However, the Italian legal order fully recognizes the Free Territory of Trieste and the continuity of its civil administration, which the Governments of the US and of the UK sub-entrusted to the Italian Government. Not to mention that even the 1975 agreement confirms (art. 7) that the 1954 MoU is still in force for its signatories. Including Italy’s Government.

For the last time, the people of the Free Territory of Trieste stood before their Court hoping that 60 years of oppressing nationalistic political propaganda would end.

FREE TRIESTE’s NEXT ACTIONS:

Obviously, addressing the local representatives of the Italian Government is not enough to re-establish the rule of law in the Free Territory of Trieste. Those who, unpunished, simulate Italian sovereignty over Trieste are not willing to give up on the fragile, anacronistic propagandas that shield them since decades.

Free Trieste and its supporters are obviously continuing the legal battle in defense of the rights of the people, residents, and enterprises on the local level. This important action is following the policy consolidated in the 2013 Notice of Default. So is continuing the defense of the Northern Free Port from illegal urbanization attempts.

FREE TRIESTE MUST INTENSIFY ITS INTERNATIONAL ACTIONS.
