19 March 2014: the truth about the 1954 Memorandum of Understanding of London?

Trieste, 9 March 2014 – On 19 March [2014] at 10.30AM takes place a potentially decisive hearing for Free Trieste’s legal battle.

Judge Leanza is pronouncing himself about the 1954 Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Free Territory of Trieste as part of Roberto Giurastante’s exception on jurisdiction.

In January he announced a decision “based on the law, not politics”. So this could be the very first judgment confirming that the 1954 Memorandum of Understanding did not return Trieste to Italy.

Indeed, the Court’s own assessment is that the present-day Free Territory of Trieste (then “zone A”) is under the Italian Government’s temporary civil administration.

In other words, after years of illegal simulations, the Court is close to admitting that Trieste is not under Italian sovereignty. So is since the coming into force of the Italian Peace Treaty (art. 21).

The Free Territory of Trieste and the rights is established, recognized, and regulated by laws in force. Indeed, in June [2013] Free Trieste addressed the administering Italian Government with an “Act of Complaint and Notice of Default” requesting compliance with those laws.

This is why it is important participating to Free Trieste’s sit-in at Trieste’s Courthouse of Trieste.

Our rights were trampled on for too long. It is time to claim them all, for ourselves, and for Trieste!
