TRIESTE INDEPENDENCE DAY 2013

TRIESTE INDEPENDENCE DAY 2013:

September 15th, 2013 is the 66th anniversary of the coming into force of the 1947 Treaty of Peace with Italy. To Trieste, this is the Independence Day. More than 8,000 people participated to Free Trieste’s celebration.

One especially important moment was the reading of Proclamation No. 1, with which the British-US A.M.G. F.T.T. announced the Free Territory of Trieste’s independence.

Proclamation No. 1 of the A.M.G. F.T.T. about Trieste's Independence.

Our history:

The Free Territory of Trieste is under the United Nations’s protection, and it has the only international Free Port in the world: all States have special or general rights over it.

In 1954, the Governments of the US and of the UK sub-entrusted Trieste’s temporary civil administration to the Italian Government. Administration does not mean sovereignty.

During the Cold War, the Question of Trieste remained frozen, but Free Trieste has studied and re-opened it in out current era.

Trieste is the capital city of a sovereign State in the heart of Europe. While former “Zone B” is now part of Slovenia and of Croatia (1991-92), “Zone A” is now the present-day Free Territory of Trieste.

The present-day Free Territory of Trieste (since 1992). Trieste is independent since 1947.

…an our future:

It is time for Trieste to get its future back. To do so, it is necessary re-establishing the rule of law and fully activate the rights of it citizens and enterprises.

Ours is a renewed, global world: after the end of old rivalries, international trade and free zones are prospering. Trieste must reclaim its strategic place, and return one of the most prominent Mediterranean ports.

Trieste must break free from the oppressive Italian nationalism and be once agains the Philadelphia of Europe: a truly plurinational land, here universal brotherhood ultimately sweeps away the divisions and prejudice of the past century.

The 8,000 people who joined Free Trieste’s demonstration, titled no less than “Let us Free Trieste” have understood all of it very well.

Happy Independence Day, Trieste!
