Trieste: Italian officers and politicians denounced for international fraud

Trieste, 20 January 2016. – The Free Trieste Movement, which stands for the rights of the Free Territory of Trieste and of its international Free Port, has warned and denounced to the Judiciary the Commissioner of the Italian Government in Trieste, as well as other local officers and politicians for what the complaint, dated Jan. 19th, describes as «a massive international fraud» and «one of the greatest and best covered scandals of the political-institutional system of corruption that devastates the Republic of Italy». Among the politicians involved there are the Region’s President and Renzi’s deputy in the PD, Debora Serracchiani, and Trieste’s mayor, Roberto Cosolini, himself a member of the PD.

The document revolves on a years-long attempt, by certain «Italian political-speculative circles» to complete a complex operation for the annihilation of the Northern sector of Trieste’s international Free Port (also disregarded as “the old port”) in «an illegal housing and building speculations amounting to about EUR 1.5 billions» in order to favor the diversion of the new, expanding trade routes through the doubling Suez Canal and the developing Baltic-Adriatic and Trans-Siberian routes via Vienna-Bratislava.

According to the document, what is stopping the speculative operation is the Free Trieste Movement’s opposition, supported also by the newly established International Provisional Representative of the Free Territory of Trieste (I.P.R. F.T.T). Yet, apparently politicians and speculators are pressing the Commissioner of the Italian Government, Francesca Adelaide Garufi for her to issue, just days before her retirement, decrees labeled as “illegitimate”, because they would pave the way to the removal of the area from State Property, to its urbanization, and ultimate sale. All of this despite the area’s free port legal status being secured by law. Indeed, this operation would go against both international and Italian laws.
