Free Trieste notifies to the Commissar of Government the Charter of Rights of the Citizens of the Free TerritoryTrieste, May 19th, 2015. – Tomorrow, Wednesday May 20th, at 11AM, Free Trieste is officially presenting the “Charter of Rights of the Citizens of the Free Territory of Trieste” to the provisional, sub-administering Italian Government.

The document is presented through the Commissioner of the Government, with office in the historical palace of the Imperial lieutenancy, Piazza Grande or dell’Unità.

After the first notification, Free Trieste is sending the “Charter”, in Italian and English, to all States and international organizations concerned.

The Charter is based on UN Security Council Resolution 16, on the 1947 Treaty of Peace between the Allied and Associated Powers and Italy, as well as on the 1954 MoU of London.

The document does also recall the principles expressed in the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, in the UN Charter, in the Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States, in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, in the Final Act of the Helsinki Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europa and in the Charter of Paris.
