Diplomatic protest of Free Trieste against Italian military celebrations

Trieste, 7 November 2014. – The Movimento Trieste Libera – Gibanje Svobodni Trst – Bewegung Freies Triest – Free Trieste Movement, as subject of international law that represents the rights, legitimate interests, and opinions of a significant part of the people of the Territorio Libero di Trieste – Svobodno Tržaško Ozemlje – Free Territory of Trieste, protests the nationalistic, military celebrations that the provisional, administering Italian Government planned in Trieste from October 26th to November 5th, 2014.

Such military celebrations, with exhibitions of cannons, tanks and war ships, constitute a breach of the Free Territory’s demilitarization of the Free Territory of Trieste, established under the 1947 Treaty of Peace, as well as simulating Italian sovereignty over the administered State. Furthermore, those celebrations hide the fact that during the 1914-18 World War, 99% of Trieste’s people has loyally fought in the Army and Navy of Austria-Hungary.

Trieste’s people didn’t attend the Italian nationalistic celebrations, and Free Trieste addresses the administering Italian Government, the UN, and the international community’s democratic actors seeking that such violations of the rights and history of the Free Territory and international Free Port of Trieste don’t take place ever again.
