Monday, January 19th [2015]. – Trieste’s the local administrators summoned a the City Council to discuss the attempt to illegally remove from State Property the Northern Free Port and use the area for a housing and building speculation under the fraud-laws that Senator Russo inserted, by deception, in the Italian financial law for year 2015.
The Free Trieste Movement did not take part to the meeting, because it doesn’t recognize the City Council’s legitimacy nor its competence on the matter.
Free Trieste did, however, address the City and Region Councillors, warning them about the legal implications and consequences of that action. The note has been also sent to the press. In the document, Free Trieste argues that Senator Russo’s provisions are illegal under both international and Italian law (constitutional and administrative). Those provisions are therefore inapplicable.
The Free Trieste Movement is disconcerted because, so far, none of the Italian politicians in Trieste has shown to be capable and dutiful enough to understand why the operation against the Northern Free Port of Trieste is illegal, as well as ruinous for both Trieste’s working opportunities and economic development. Not to mention that the operation gives raise to founded, well-documented anti-corruption and anti-mafia questions.
