President Giurastante: “Time to react with maximum energy against provokers”
The Free Trieste Movement was once again attacked from the inside. This is the second time in six months. Because of this, President Roberto Giurastante activated the Statute’s provisions regarding emergencies. The provisions are to remain into force until the next ordinary Assembly, expected in February. Free Trieste considers both “golpe” attempts to be guided by the same, external hand in order to block the international actions of the Movement, which are becoming more and more effective.
The first attack from the inside came in May, after the Movement’s denounce that in Trieste there are connections between politics and organized criminality. Some members of the management board reassigned, trying to take the place of the President, however, the Movement’s volunteers remained on his side. Because the first attempt failed, the President’s opponents created a “rival” movement which promotes minor actions to run for Italian elections.
The second, almost identical to the first, came after the Movement’s September 9th Vienna initiative.
During that event, Free Trieste extended the action for the Free Territory and international Free Port of Trieste. This time, other managers tried to size control of the Movement, but once again the volunteers reacted, impeaching those representatives, and supporting President Giurastante.
However, the impeached managers resigned sending an insulting letter through a Rome lawyer. They did even publish it online on October 12th, igniting polemics while the Movement’s delegates were attending a demonstration on the Brennerpass.
One of the resigners did even summon a “spontaneous”: event for October 26th, which in truth is an unauthorized demonstration in piazza Unità. The purpose of the event is to challenge official nationalistic Italian celebrations. Free Trieste opposes nationalistic Italian celebrations, however, it advises its supporters to simply avoid them, labelling any “spontaneous challenge” as a provocation.
In view of all of the above, on October 13th, President Roberto Giurastante took the Statutory powers of the case. He did also substitute the Management Board with an interim Committee formed by the volunteers in charge of Free Trieste’s operation groups. All extraordinary actions are being presented, discussed and ratified by the Assembly to be held in February.
President Giurastante declared to the press that:
«The Free Trieste Movement isn’t playing games; it is struggling seriously here and internationally for the Free Territory and Free Port of Trieste. The reason behind such betrayals is providing help to the corrupt Italian authorities and deceiving the people: this is indeed harmful for Trieste. For this reason, from now on, we are reacting with maximum energy against all instigators and irresponsible people, as well as inviting fellow citizens to effectively show courage, unity and solidarity.»
