“Nature – for thus does any current or stream the line of least resistance, finding a way past an obstacle and then flowing on, while the back eddies wash away the now isolated object”.
– Sir Basil Henry Liddel Hart
They are getting ready. The local nationalistic lobby won’t give up: in 2014 it wants to shut the stand for legality that is taking place in Trieste. But this stand for legality in the face of the local establishment’s pro-Italy corruption is unstoppable.
For the first time in 60 years, the people of Trieste are claiming the Free Territory’s international rights, granted under the 1947 Treaty of Peace. This is the only way to save Trieste from a bleak future under the control of mafias.
The ongoing economic crisis is harsher than ever, there is no doubt that our society is suffering. Every year, 6000 jobs are lost, more than 3000 people emigrated: long story short, this is 2013. And 2014 is seriously risking to be even worse.
One century ago, Trieste was an economic power, which started falling in the abyss of WWI. One century later, a Trieste struggles after being the Italian Government’s spoil of war for too long. Trieste may have lost its shipyards, and suffered pollution at the eco-mafias hands, however, finally, it has a way out.
But the local establishment can’t stand it.
Letting Trieste enjoy its independence as Free Territory and prosper thanks to its international Free Port would harm their business. It is a shady business, under the Italian flag’s shadow. Shady business disguised as protection of Italy’s interest, even if, often, Italy itself struggles with the interests of its own criminal organizations. Italy itself is a State that drains its citizens and destroys its own economy, fueling corruption and mafias. How could they ever let a healthy economy exist, or escape the grip of its loyal political establishment?
Trieste is and can be free. Its port and emporium, ruled by an International commission. It can prosper thanks to its free zones. An internationally-protected free zone in Central and Eastern Europe’s port of choice.
The European Singapore: this is XXI Century Trieste.
While Italy faces the ongoing crisis even more than other EU Member States, the light at the end of the tunnel is right here, in Trieste, the capital city of the Free Territory. This is Europe’s biggest free zone, protected under the 1947 Treaty of Peace, and it’s awaiting to be open to the world. Trieste can create development, jobs, wealth for millions: from Trieste to Milano, to Munich, to Zurich, to Vienna, Budapest, even Moscow.
But this means Trieste and its Port must be free from the deadly grip of Italian camorras, be them nationalist or not.
If this won’t happen, 2014 is going to be the point of no return for the people of the Free Territory, for their stand in the name of legality, fought with law alone to defend the rights of all people. Allowing those rights to be repressed and cancelled would have unfortunate, tragic consequences.
Course and Recourse. 100 years after the beginning of WWI.
