Free Trieste

SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY

SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITYIn the past months I was often faced with improper uses of information regarding my work in the Free Territory of Trieste‘s defense.

Even the press jumped on the bandwagon. I had to undergo a smearing campaign because of my political effort, and the Italian authorities initiated proceedings against me for my disputes against the simulation of Italian sovereignty over the present-day Free Territory of Trieste.

Indeed, Trieste is an independent State and I am one of its citizens. A State sub-entrusted to the Italian Government’s temporary civil administration under the 1954 MOU regarding the Free Territory of Trieste.

All those attacks are part of the “sovereignty simulators” as they attempt to discrediting whoever opposes their decades long wrongdoings and breaches of international law.

The stakes are high. This is not only about the city, it is, especially, about Trieste’s unique international Free Port.

The local “nationalistic camorra” has caused a loss of revenues worth billions, depriving the Free Territory and the international community of States. It shields itself continuing to lie with the support of the political establishment, which can only do its dirty business in exchange for (supposed) loyalty to the Italian State.

Trieste is now a land without law. Or, even more ironically, a justice-free land. There is no legal certainty here.

There is a law for the mighty (eg. certain powers who use Trieste’s Free Port as they wish, turning away from the simulation of Italian sovereignty), those who seek and obtain compliance with their own rights under the 1947 Peace Treaty, and then there is the law for the others, the people of the Free Territory who, in spite of the law, are subject to Italian legislation, taxation, even citizenship.

It is this perverted view of the law, aiming at subverting the rules-based international order, to allow for the existence of the establishment that prevents Trieste from being the European Singapore. It is a mafia-like establishment, which doesn’t care what is legal and what is not.

A system that won’t stand calls for legality. They are met with criminal charges. Nobody shall subvert the established disorder.

Yet, even if the local Italian authorities reacted as expected, the people of Trieste’s reaction was rather unexpected. The final stand for Trieste’s future can only be lost if the people of Trieste give up.

Because the worst enemies of “Question Trieste” can only be us: Italy has no instrument to justify its Government’s local representatives for their crimes. Except, of course, the people of Trieste’s failure to call for their very rights.

THAT’S IT.

So, when I, a representative of the Free Trieste Movement, am attacked by Italian politicians, I can only take it as part of the harsh struggle for our rights. However, when Triestine organizations calling themselves “pro-independence” join those politicians, it all changes. We were infiltrated. And this was indeed a risk for the stand in the Free Territory’s name.

Since [May 2014] the most aggressive smearing campaigns were those of movement “Territorio Libero” (or TL3), an organization established by people who left Free Trieste.

Attacks to me as a person. From a subject who calls itself “pro-independence”. And yet, one that is willing to run in the 2016 Italian elections. Elections that are illegal in the Free Territory. “TL3” is willing to join the ranks of those simulating Italian sovereignty over Trieste and over its port.

It would be a hard blow for Free Trieste’s stand for the rule of law, and complaints against those illegal elections.

Siding with the Italians who regard me as “subversive” for my actions disputing Italian elections in the Free Territory, challenging the simulation of Italian jurisdiction (Trieste has its own Courts), for denouncing illegal operations on the Free Territory’s State properties (demanio), for informing the E.U. about the Italian eco-mafias crimes in Trieste. This is what the “pro-Italian independence” TL3 is all about.

Right now they are openly supporting some of the local politicians who are most active in mismanaging the Free Territory. Their goal is clear: getting read of those unwilling to compromise with the corrupt Italian adminsitering authorities.

Now it is time for Trieste’s people to decide what future they want. Anacronistic nationalism or the rules-based international order?
