THE FREE TERRITORY OF TRIESTE IS USED BY ITALY TO DISPOSE HAZARDOUS WASTE

2017 was again a critical year for Trieste’s unresolved environmental emergencies, however, at the same time, independent information on the matter, including this blog, consolidated and gained followers both here and abroad, finally weakening the anachronistic Italian censorship that prevented the citizens from realizing that the Italian misadministration had long used the present-day Free Territory of Trieste – FTT as landfill of State for the bordering Italian Republic.

In the past decades, the operations of the local nationalistic Camorra, covered by Italian services of State, produced incalculable damages to Trieste’s environment and to the health of its citizens.

Because since 1947 Trieste is an independent State subject to a provisional regime of Government. Until 1954 this was under the responsibility of the British-US A.M.G. F.T.T. however, the Governments of the US and of the UK did later sub-entrust Trieste’s temporary civil administration to the Italian Government (not to the Italian State).

Ever since, Trieste is a “land without law”. Or, even better, a land subject to the “special” laws or organized crime. The connections between the local, nationalistic Camorra, the Italian State, and the Mafia were always very strong here, and proved necessary to manage illegal traffics that in Italy would have been much more risky.

This “war” to the environment of the Free Territory is described in dossier “D for dumping grounds” by Greenaction Transnational as well as in my investigative book Tracks of Legality.

A war that continues to our days, only, awareness of environmental issues has risen globally, and, since 2011, an increasing number of citizens is claiming the re-establishment of their rights and of the correct administration of the Free Territory of Trieste, including the defense of its environment and the full activation of the regime of its international Free Port as strategic port of Mitteleuropa open to the ships and freight of all State, not as terminal for the “dirty business” of Italy, of its Mafias, and of their “business partners”.

Because, again, even in recent years Trieste is treated as a European center for the disposal of waste, and here it is the local nationalistic Camorra that comes into play, because it shields itself with its “devotion” to Rome and a public image of protector of the presumed “italianità di Trieste” (which in facts it nothing more than brutal, fanatic Italian nationalism, when not outright Neo-fascism) to breach both international and Italian law to profit from the devastation of the environment and of the economy of the present-day FTT, obviously with proper immunities, since “System Trieste” extends its influence also on some magistrates and judges that work in Trieste.

The result of the influence of this System on the health and of the environment of Trieste is disastrous, and so extended that not only the Triestines, but also the citizens of bordering States (Slovenia, and Italy itself) or neighbor States (Croatia) are becoming aware of it, because just like the Free Territory of Trieste, their Countries are affected, for example, by the fly ashes of the Trieste incineration plant (LINK) or by the discharge of its STP (LINK).

It won’t take long to the citizens of the present-day FTT who become aware of this situation to discover how difficult it is obtaining information about pollution by local authorities, the huge taxes on waste they are subject to notwithstanding, not to mention the unclear management of the aforementioned incineration plant, which is used also to dispose waste from Italian regions that are oppressed by organized criminality (LINK).

The difference being, people from Campania know about this, so they are since long opposing to incineration plants and landfills, while in Habsburg-minded Trieste nobody could imagine such a serious situation, and the silence of mainstream media (together with the propagandas of the local system of corruption) did the rest.

At least until the Internet era: although with some limitation, today it is easier for the citizens gaining information form “independent” sources and understanding that something is not right. For instance, how comes that the city that is “dearest” to Italy, after years of propagandas about achieving self-sufficient in waste disposal thanks to an incineration plant built in a port area (madness!), is facing a waste crisis and even loses money because of that?

This depends on the fact that the waste of ecomafias is brought by ship to the Via Errera incineration plant (through the navigable canal of Zaule), they are disposed under payment, only, all incomes go to the private company that manages the facility (which is not based in Trieste): what a great deal for public health!

Also, many environmental crimes that the System would have just covered here in Trieste could be denounced before European authorities, and the EU imposed to Italy heavy financial penalties for that; it was no less than an intervention of Greenaction Transnational in defense of the Gulf of Trieste from the catastrophic LNG terminal project by Gas Natural Fenosa (LINK) to start the “revolution of legality” of the citizens of the Free Territory of Trieste.

Citizens who, besides civil and economic rights, have also the right to live in a healthy environment: the pollution caused in past decades must be remediated, but costs this great cannot be sustained as long as Trieste’s economies is on its knees.

The only way to obtain the capitals required for the remediation is restoring the economic rights of the Free Territory of Trieste and of its international Free Port, attracting new investors that have no ties with the system of corruption that caused the pollution in first place.
