TRIAL AGAINST THE INTERNATIONAL FREE PORT OF TRIESTE

TRIAL AGAINST THE INTERNATIONAL FREE PORT OF TRIESTE

ON MONDAY DECEMBER 19th, COURT OF TRIESTE

On Monday [December 19th, 2016], at 10.30AM, an unusual hearing is taking place at Trieste’s Court (room 113, 1st floor).

The accused person is Paolo G. Parovel, director of independent newspaper “La Voce di Trieste” and responsible of Free Trieste’s foreign relations. It was Roberto Cosolini, Trieste’s former mayor, to denounce him.

Mr. Parovel is under trial for denouncing, on La Voce di Trieste, the Trieste Municipality’s leading role in an operation across the board to attempt seizing control of Trieste’s Northern Free Port and dismissing it with a massive building speculation.

All while letting Spanish multinational company Gas Natural build a LNG terminal in the port’s Southern sector, effectively paralyzing it.

It is an operation that would destroy the city’s economy and its hinterland’s. And it is also illegal, being clearly forbidden by the 1947 Italian Peace Treaty. This is the legal instrument establishing Trieste’s international Free Port as a State corporation of the Free Territory of Trieste (Annex VI, art. 34).

Furthermore, the international Free Port’s management is vested upon an International Commission consisting in delegates from more than 20 States, chaired by the Free Territory’s own representative (Annex VIII).

The only ones to oppose the speculative attempts at the Northern Free Port’s expenses are Free Trieste and Mr. Parovel.

Hence the ongoing judicial attacks: blatant intimidations, aiming at silencing those who stand for legality in the present-day Free Territory of Trieste.

On Monday, December 19th, [2016] the courageous journalist won’t be the only one standing trial. By his side stands the rules based international legal order. Against them, stand only Italian nationalistic propagandas.
