THE PROSECUTION ASKS THE CASE BE DISMISSED WITHOUT FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS
Trieste’s Prosecution Office accepted Public Prosecutor Lucia Baldovin’s request to dismiss without investigations the complaint for antisemitism recently presented by Roberto Giurastante (Free Trieste’s President) and by journalist Paolo G. Parovel, director of La Voce di Trieste.
On November 16th, 2014, someone attached a yellow star with the writing “Kosher Restaurant of Parovel and Giudastante – ring Trieste Libera” at the entrance of Free Trieste’s office.
Indeed, this is an alarming case of incitement, instigating racial hatred against the movement that stands for legality. Since months, Italian nationalistic press and the Italian judiciary are attacking Free Trieste.
This attack, lead by pro-Italian circles, is based on social media Facebook, and consists in public mud-slinging campaigns. The derogatory information later spreads both online and on the local media (Italian-sponsored, of course!).
Yet, the Prosecution, in spite of the seriousness of the fact, demanded the case be dismissed “on sight” as early as on November 21st. Only three days after the complaint’s lodging. Some interesting new record we have. On November 19th, the Prosecution confiscated the evidence for further investigations. One day later, the investigation was no longer necessary.
The complaint included many screenshots of antisemitic attacks and remarks. The source of all those insults is Facebook. There are users inciting racial hatred against Free Trieste’s representatives, going as far as death threats. A public, fascist-style, nazi-inspired hate campaign against Free Trieste’s most visible representatives. Yet, the local Italian authorities seem to be fine with it.
Because, to the local Italian establishment, Free Trieste is the enemy. It does not seek political compromises, so it is uncontrollable. Furthermore, there are no legal means to stop Free Trieste’s legal acts.
Is the local nationalistic “camorra” willing to force all of Free Trieste’s supporters to wear a yellow star?
