Trieste, 6 October 2024 – The Law Commission of agency “International Provisional Representative of the Free Territory of Trieste – I.P.R. F.T.T.” has declassified a confidential dossier regarding investigations «to clarify, for the sake of public interest, the entire question of the EUR 112 million in European funds requested by the Municipality of Trieste as part of the Italian Recovery Plan to sponsor the urbanization works in the so-called “old port”.

 

The original dossier, 10 pages plus annexes, is titled «EUR 112 million fraud in requests for NGEU funds presented by the Municipality of Trieste through the Italian Recovery Plan (PNRR) for illegitimate works in the so-called “Old port”», it is dated 10 May 2023, and it is now publicly available in the “Documents” section of the Agency’s website (LINK) along with four annexes, which include a request for inspections directed to the Italian Minister of Justice, Mr. Carlo Nordio.

 

Furthermore, the dossier has been circulated online with a journalistic investigation by Paolo G. Parovel, director of online newspapers Il Corriere di Trieste and La Voce di Trieste, providing a detailed reconstruction of what the author describes as «the “old port” operation» stating that the investigation’s purpose is to outline «the complex structure of the entire fraud, which ultimately aimed to secure EU funds».

International attention to problems regarding the Port of Trieste appears reconfirmed by the fact that, since January 2023, the analyses published by the two online newspapers in English and in Italian have exceeded one million views, especially from the US, Denmark, Germany, China (the PRC), Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Russia, and India.
