Free Trieste

A DIFFERENT SEPTEMBER 15TH

P1070466

Trieste’s Independence Day celebration is over. This year September 15th was much different than it was in 2013. Last year, thousand of people attended Trieste’s biggest demonstration in the past four decades.

One year later, things are much different: the organization promoting that demonstration, Free Trieste, is broken. Actually, it was divided.

The Italian State (or those who abuse of it?) know full well how dangerous a Movement standing for legality is, especially when it fights with law alone and enjoys huge popular support. The risk is having to respond for decades of frauds at the expenses not only of the Free Territory’s people, but also at the expenses of the International Community.

A fraud consisting in the simulation of Italian sovereignty, even on Trieste’s international Free Port. In spite of UNSC Resolutions, even.

This is why stopping the Free Trieste Movement was so important. First, with hammering propagandas on all media (which is under the establishment’s full control, as in any State with a very weak democracy): it was fundamental scaring away Free Trieste’s many supporters.

The most distinguished actor in this terroristic campaign was local newspaper Il Piccolo. The monopolistic newspaper spread non-stop information about the judicial actions against Free Trieste and its members.

An outright manhunt. The names of the investigated persons were revealed by the press. The consequent trials, individually and as a whole, constitute a severe action against civil and democratic values, in breach of the very Italian Constitution.

The subversive actions of the judiciary is well exemplified in certain administrative decisions. Indeed, an adminsitrative Court has attempted to subvert the rules-based international over claiming that the 1947 Treaty of Peace is invalid, same for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. According to the local judiciary, citizens of Trieste who claim the rights of their own independent State (the Free Territory) have no rights.

However, the hardest blow to Free Trieste came from the inside, from well-supported dissidents.

After failing to take control of the Movement, they established their own group, called “Cubic Free Territory”. They didn’t even try to hide their political ambitions. Compromising with Italian political parties. Running in thee 2016 local election. That’s their agenda.

However, to do so they did also need to refute all that Free Trieste did, attacking its heads as violently as possible.

Attacks that are outright incitement against those regarded as “two madmen” who lead the Movement: Roberto Giurastante (the President, myself) and Paolo G. Parovel (independent journalist and member of the Movement). An outright lynching, supported by the local press. The same press that spent much time praising the new “pro-independence” organization: the one Italy likes.

Among the “cubic” gang’s slogans, focusing Question Trieste on Zone B, by now an internationally recognized part of Slovenia and of Croatia. A claim worth the most nationalistic Italian right wing, which the cubed gang represents well. Indeed, the “cubic” gang includes representatives of the Italian far-right wing, pseudo-freemasons, and other representatives of the corrupt Italian political establishment.

Furthermore, the “cubic” pro-independence agenda requires a “FTT mayor” and obviously this means running in the upcoming 2016 election. Too bad it is an election summoned in Italy’s name, in breach of Trieste’s laws.

This would mean recognizing Italian sovereignty over the Free Territory. So, the “FTT Mayor” should, according to the cubic gang, the “FTT Mayor” should summon a referendum to separate from Italy (mimicking Scotland’s proposal, or Veneto’s secessionist activities).

Yet, this deceptive claim is a lie. The Free Territory is already independent under the 1947 Treaty of Peace, and, again, calling for a separatist action would mean claiming that Italy has full sovereignty over Trieste and its international Free Port. But it does not.

Sounds like an agenda provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, certainly not a self-proclaimed “pro-independence” movement.

This is why on September 14th, the “unitarian” demonstration (held one day in advance) by the “cubic” movement attracted only 600 confused people. Their sad march in the city has little to do with the successful 2013 demonstration. On September 15th, 2013, more than 8,000 people marched calling for their rights under the 1947 Treaty of Peace.

Free Trieste, the Triestine organization standing for legality, sure had to adjust after so many attacks. But it stands still. Against all odds.

The people of the Free Territory won’t stop calling for their actual rights: this time they won’t give up to the games of the nationalistic lobby that, for 60 years, denied their very future.
