THE SHIP LOADED WITH RADIOACTIVE WASTE IN THE GULF OF TRIESTE

IT IS DANISH CARGO  “SEA BIRD”: FROM CAPODISTRIA TO VENEZIA AND TRIESTE, TRAFFICKING “DIRTY” RADIOACTIVE WASTE WITHOUT INFORMING THE PEOPLE

Trieste, November 2, 2012. – Ten irradiated MTR fuel elements (Petten reactors), 91 MTR irradiated fuel elements (Triga), one neutron source. This is the load of radioactive waste about to reach the port of Trieste to be embarked on cargo ship SEA BIRD of Danish carrier J. Poulsen.

A very inconvenient load of “atomic” waste, to the point that Italian authorities, in agreement with Slovenian authorities, tried to hide it under a curtain of “omertà” – Mafia-style connivence, by not providing to the people any information about the prevention of radiological emergencies. It is mandatory information under European law, but this would reveal the at least sad choice to make the narrow and busy Gulf of Trieste the core of such a high-risk activity.

The choice depends on merely economic reasons. Besides Italian radioactive waste, there is also waste from other States, loaded in Slovenia’s port of Koper-Capodistria, and this makes it very convenient sending all European nuclear waste to upper Adriatic.

No clear information about the waste from Slovenia is available, they were loaded on the  SEA BIRD in the port of Koper, last Monday (November 2012) Then the Danish cargo ship of “radioactive poisons” reached Venice, where is now anchored. From here, it should go to Porto Marghera (??) and then reach its last port, Trieste (reaching it on November 5th) to load Italian nuclear waste at Pier VII.

So, in Trieste the SEA BIRD should load its last instalment of radioactive waste. Which, on the other side, is also the only one that we have some information about: 10 irradiated MTR fuel elements from the Eurex storage in Saluggia (it might be radioactive waste from the research Dutch nuclear power plant of Petten), 91 MTR irradiated fuel elements (Triga) from a research nuclear reactor in Pavia, plus of unknown origin one neutron source (a dismissed NPP?).

Again, there is no information about the radioactive waste “from Slovenia” (from the Krško NPP perhaps?) and “from Europe” that are now in Italy (Venice). Also, it appears that part of this waste s from Austria, and their authorities did not provide information about it either.

This is how the radioactive ship under a very discoverable Secret of State is sailing with its deadly load in the Gulf od Trieste. Without any prevention campaign to prepare the people to deal with the consequences of a possible accident or terroristic attack.

And without ever training the very port personnel that should transport the dangerous contained as required by the mandatory External Emergency Plan (E.E.P.) that, for matters of “security” public authorities keep hidden. Irresponsibility that seems more like criminality.
